The Helambu Short Trek starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal and a hike through the lush forests of Shivapuri National Park. The trail gradually ascends to Chisapani, a popular spot in the morning for sky-high mountain views. From Chisapani, the trail continues through rhododendron forests, terraced farmland and traditional mountain settlements to Kutumsang.
The trail then climbs to Tharepati, reaching an elevation of around 3,650 meters. As one of the highest points of the trek, Tharepati offers excellent views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. From there, the trail descends through peaceful forests and traditional settlements towards Tarkeghyang, one of the most important cultural villages in Helambu.
Tarkeghyang provides a unique opportunity to see the traditional Hyolmo culture, to visit Buddhist monasteries, and to admire stone-built houses and to interact with local people. The last part of the Helambu Short Trek descends through forests, terraced fields and rural villages towards Melamchi and then a nice drive back to Kathmandu.
