Journey overview

The experience at a glance

The Gosaikunda Short Trek- 5 days is a short but rewarding Himalayan adventure to the sacred alpine lake of Gosaikunda at 4,380m. Gosaikunda is a major pilgrimage site in Langtang National Park and a good base for a mountain trekker who wants something like a taste of Himalayan culture without going for a long trek in the mountains.

The Gosaikunda Short Trek is a rewarding Himalayan adventure that takes you to the sacred Gosaikunda Lake at 4,380m, one of Nepal’s most important pilgrimage sites and a spectacular destination within Langtang National Park. A drive from Kathmandu takes us to Dhunche, and then we climb a mountain in a gentle way through lush forests and on to the mountains and landscapes that are dramatically different from those of the hills of Nepal.

The Gosaikunda Short Trekking trail passes through Thulo Syabru and Sing Gompa (Chandanbari) before heading on to Lauribinayak and the high-altitude environment of Gosaikunda. Trekkers can see Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu and other Himalayan peaks, with visibility depending on the season and weather conditions. The trail also passes through beautiful rhododendron, pine and oak forests, the route as picturesque as the place itself.

At Gosaikunda Lake, you can see crystal clear turquoise water along with rugged mountain slopes. In fact, the lake is a holy place for Hindus as well as Buddhists. In the Janai Purnima festival, thousands of pilgrims go to Gosaikunda to take a holy bath in its waters, and that’s why it’s so much of a cultural and religious place.

Alternative Gosaikunda Trekking Route: We also recommend the Sundarijal–Chisapani–Tuksang–Ghopte–Gosaikunda–Dhunche route, which can be completed in about 6 days for experienced trekkers. This alternative path through the natural ridges and forests of Shivapuri and Langtang offers more remote trekkers the best experience for longer walking days, higher elevation and fewer crowds.

Trek Difficulty: The 5-day Gosaikunda Short Trek is rated Moderate to Challenging because the route reaches 4,380m in a relatively short period. The other Sundarijal route is Challenging and requires longer walking days and more endurance. Good health and fitness, proper pacing, and proper acclimatization are required.

Best Time For Gosaikunda Short Trek: The best seasons for Gosaikunda Trek are March to May and October to November, when the weather is generally clearer, and mountain views are at their best.
