Nepal Tour 5 Days 4 Nights: Itinerary and Highlights
Discover Kathmandu Valley’s UNESCO heritage before an overnight escape to Nagarkot for sunset and Himalayan sunrise views.
Journey overview
The Kathmandu Nagarkot Tour – 5 Days is a relaxed cultural journey combining the historic cities of Kathmandu Valley with an overnight escape to the peaceful hill station of Nagarkot. Designed for first-time visitors, families, couples and travelers with limited holiday time, this private itinerary presents Nepal’s religious traditions, medieval architecture, local craftsmanship and Himalayan landscapes without requiring strenuous walking.
Your journey begins in Kathmandu, where our representative welcomes you at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfers you to your hotel. The following day is dedicated to four of the valley’s most important UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Explore Swayambhunath, the hilltop Buddhist stupa popularly known as the Monkey Temple; visit the enormous white dome and active monastic community of Boudhanath; observe the sacred rituals along the Bagmati River at Pashupatinath Temple; and walk through the courtyards, temples and former royal palace of Kathmandu Durbar Square.
The cultural exploration continues in Patan and Bhaktapur, two historic Newar cities known for their palace squares, traditional architecture and skilled artisans. Patan Durbar Square displays an exceptional collection of stone temples, metalwork and carved wooden buildings. Bhaktapur offers a different atmosphere, with brick-paved lanes, pottery workshops, traditional houses and landmarks such as Nyatapola Temple, the Golden Gate and the 55-Window Palace.
After exploring Bhaktapur, continue through the eastern countryside to Nagarkot. Situated at approximately 2,175 metres, Nagarkot is one of the most accessible hill destinations near Kathmandu. On a clear evening, you can watch the sun descend beyond the hills while the Himalayan horizon changes colour. The following morning offers another opportunity to see the mountains as the first light reaches the distant snow-covered peaks. Visibility depends on cloud, haze and seasonal weather, so mountain and sunrise views cannot be guaranteed.
This five-day Kathmandu and Nagarkot tour includes three nights in Kathmandu and one night in Nagarkot. Private transportation, guided sightseeing and airport transfers make the journey comfortable and straightforward. The itinerary can also be adjusted to suit different flight schedules, hotel preferences, mobility requirements or additional interests.

Reaching the upper complex involves steps, but vehicle access can be used for travelers who prefer less walking.
Continue to Kathmandu Durbar Square, the former royal and administrative centre of the city. Walk through historic courtyards and temple-lined squares while learning about Newar architecture, the Malla kings and the tradition of the Kumari, Nepal’s Living Goddess.
Visit Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal’s most sacred Hindu temple complex, located beside the Bagmati River. Non-Hindus cannot enter the principal temple, but they can view its exterior and observe the surrounding shrines and ceremonial areas from across the river.
Complete the day at Boudhanath Stupa, one of Nepal’s most important centres of Tibetan Buddhism. Walk clockwise around the stupa alongside pilgrims, monks and local residents before returning to your hotel.
