The Kathmandu, Pokhara and Nagarkot Tour is a relaxed 9-day Nepal itinerary for travellers who want cultural depth, mountain scenery and comfortable road travel without undertaking a high-altitude trek. Beginning and ending in Kathmandu, the private journey connects the heritage cities of Kathmandu Valley with Pokhara’s lakes and viewpoints and the hilltop retreat of Nagarkot.
The first part of the tour introduces the religious and artistic traditions of Kathmandu Valley. Guided sightseeing includes Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath and Kathmandu Durbar Square, followed by the historic cities of Patan and Bhaktapur. Together, these sites reveal Nepal’s distinctive blend of Hindu and Buddhist worship, Newar architecture, royal courtyards, metalwork, woodcarving and living neighbourhoods. Some temples have restricted inner areas, but your guide will explain the rituals, history and respectful visiting practices.
The route then travels west to Pokhara, Nepal’s best-known lakeside city. When skies are clear, the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre rise dramatically above the valley. The programme balances sightseeing with time outdoors: visit selected city attractions, experience early-morning views from Sarangkot, explore the World Peace Pagoda area and take a boat ride on Phewa Lake. Mountain visibility is always weather-dependent, particularly during the summer monsoon, so the guide may adjust the order of activities to use the best available conditions.
After Pokhara, a long but scenic road journey returns east and continues to Nagarkot. The overnight stay creates two opportunities—sunset and sunrise—to see the Himalayan horizon. On the final full day, return to Kathmandu for leisure, shopping or an optional activity before departure the next morning.
This easy, low-altitude tour suits first-time visitors, couples, families and active older travellers. Eight nights in selected 3-star hotels, daily breakfast, private transportation, guided sightseeing and listed entrance fees are included. The itinerary can be customised before confirmation with upgraded hotels, a Kathmandu–Pokhara flight, extra nights or additional experiences. Road times and views cannot be guaranteed because traffic, construction, weather and seasonal conditions can affect the programme.

Meet the HimalayanWindows representative at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer privately to your hotel. After check-in, rest from the journey or explore the nearby area independently. Your guide or local representative will provide a briefing on the route, sightseeing schedule, road conditions and practical arrangements. No formal sightseeing is planned so the day remains flexible around your arrival time.

After breakfast, begin a guided tour of four major Kathmandu landmarks. Visit Swayambhunath for views across the valley, Boudhanath to experience the rhythm of a living Tibetan Buddhist pilgrimage centre, and Pashupatinath on the Bagmati River, where non-Hindus observe the main temple from the permitted area. Continue to Kathmandu Durbar Square to explore palace courtyards, temples, the Kumari house and the old bazaar. The order may change with traffic, opening hours and local ceremonies.

Drive to Patan Durbar Square, renowned for Newar architecture, carved temples, metalwork and the former royal palace complex. Continue to Bhaktapur, where brick lanes connect palace courtyards, Nyatapola Temple, pottery areas and traditional neighbourhoods. Your guide will choose the most relevant monuments according to opening conditions and your interests. Return to Kathmandu in the late afternoon.

Travel west by private vehicle along Nepal’s main hill highway, following river valleys and passing terraced landscapes, roadside towns and changing mountain scenery. Stop for meals and comfort breaks at suitable places. Arrive in Pokhara and check in near the lakeside area. Driving time is an estimate and may increase because of traffic, construction, landslides or weather. A short domestic flight can be quoted as an upgrade, subject to schedule and weather.

Explore selected Pokhara attractions with your guide. The programme normally includes Bindhyabasini Temple and the old bazaar area, the Seti River gorge viewpoint, Devi’s Fall and Gupteshwar Mahadev Cave. Depending on opening conditions and time, visit a Tibetan settlement or a local museum to learn more about the communities and mountain cultures of western Nepal. Return to Lakeside with time to walk, relax or dine independently.

Leave before dawn for Sarangkot. On a clear morning, sunrise illuminates Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhre; cloud or haze can limit the view. Return for breakfast, then visit the World Peace Pagoda area by road or a combination of walking and driving selected for the group. Later, enjoy a boat ride on Phewa Lake, subject to wind and safe operating conditions, with time around Lakeside afterward.

Depart early for the long journey back toward Kathmandu Valley, stopping for meals and comfort breaks. Continue east of Kathmandu and climb to Nagarkot, a hill station known for broad Himalayan views. Check in and, if arrival time and weather allow, watch sunset from the hotel or a nearby viewpoint. Traffic and road conditions may extend the journey, so evening plans remain flexible.

Rise early for a weather-dependent sunrise over the Himalayan foothills. After breakfast, take a short local walk or enjoy the hotel surroundings before driving back to Kathmandu. Check in and keep the afternoon free for shopping, rest, a spa treatment or an optional activity arranged at additional cost. This flexible final day also provides useful breathing room after the long Pokhara–Nagarkot road journey.

Great Tour Operator
We recently used Himalayan Windows to travel to Nepal for a week. We are a family of four and took one of their cultural tours that took us to Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Nagarkot. Anup was always very helpful all the time. The communication with him was very good when we were planning for the trip; he helped us accommodate our requests and was very flexible. Once in Nepal, he was on top of everything. He received us at the airport with our tour guide and driver and then he stopped at the hotel a couple of times to make sure everything was in order. Anis, our tour guide, was amazing! He is very knowledgeable, and we learned so much from him during the week. He was also very attentive and helped with every need we had.
