Everest Helicopter Tour with Landing (w/Price for 2024)
Fly above the Khumbu, view Everest and the Khumbu Icefall, and make a brief landing at an authorized high-altitude viewpoint—all in one morning from Kathmandu.
Journey overview
The Everest Base Camp helicopter tour is the fastest way to experience the Khumbu and see Mount Everest at close range without completing a multi-day trek. Departing early in the morning from Kathmandu, this one-day helicopter journey flies east toward Lukla before continuing deep into the Everest region.
The flight begins at Kathmandu Domestic Terminal after passenger check-in, weight verification and a safety briefing. As the helicopter travels toward Lukla, you can see the hills and valleys of eastern Nepal gradually rise into the Himalayan landscape. A brief landing is normally made at Lukla for refuelling and an operational check.
From Lukla, the helicopter follows the Dudh Koshi Valley toward Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Pheriche, Gorak Shep and the upper Khumbu. On a clear morning, the flight provides spectacular views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Pumori, Thamserku and other Himalayan peaks. You can also see Sherpa villages, monasteries, alpine valleys, the Khumbu Glacier and the dramatic Khumbu Icefall.
The route normally includes a scenic flyover of Everest Base Camp and the Kala Patthar area. A brief landing may be made at Kala Patthar or another authorized high-altitude viewpoint when aviation regulations, weather, surface conditions, passenger weight and the pilot’s safety assessment allow.
Everest Base Camp itself is situated on the moving Khumbu Glacier and should not be considered a guaranteed helicopter landing point. The final landing site and the length of the stop are determined by the helicopter operator and pilot on the day of the flight.
For groups of four or five passengers, the helicopter may operate smaller shuttle flights from Pheriche or another approved location. This is a standard high-altitude safety procedure because the helicopter’s lifting capacity decreases as altitude increases. The pilot assigns seating and divides passengers according to their verified body weights and the day’s operating conditions.
When weather and timing permit, the helicopter also stops near Hotel Everest View at approximately 3,880 metres. Passengers can enjoy the mountain panorama and purchase breakfast or refreshments at their own expense.
HimalayanWindows arranges both shared and private Everest helicopter tours from Kathmandu. Shared departures provide a lower per-person price when the necessary number of passengers is confirmed, while a private charter gives your party exclusive use of the helicopter.
The complete journey normally takes four to five hours. However, all mountain flights are weather-dependent, and the route, landing points, flight time and departure schedule may change for safety or operational reasons.
Important Trip Information
Flight Operation and Landing Flexibility
The helicopter route, landing point and duration of each stop depend on current aviation regulations, weather, snow, visibility, air traffic, passenger weight and the pilot’s safety assessment.
Kala Patthar may be used as the planned high-altitude landing point when it is authorized and safe. However, another approved location may be used, or the landing may be omitted, if conditions require.
Weather, Delays and Cancellation
Everest helicopter flights are highly weather-dependent. The departure may be delayed, rerouted, rescheduled or cancelled when visibility, wind or cloud conditions are unsuitable.
We recommend keeping the full morning free and avoiding an international flight or important onward connection immediately after the tour. If the helicopter operator cancels the flight, Himalayan Windows will first try to arrange another suitable departure. Refunds and deductions will follow the conditions stated in your booking confirmation.
High-Altitude Exposure
This tour requires no trekking, but passengers travel rapidly from Kathmandu to elevations above 5,000 metres. The high-altitude landing is therefore kept very short.
Inform Himalayan Windows before booking if you have a heart, lung, blood-pressure or other significant medical condition. Pregnant travellers and anyone concerned about rapid high-altitude exposure should obtain medical advice before participating.
Passenger Weight and Shuttle Flights
Every passenger must provide an accurate body weight before the flight. The operator uses this information to calculate aircraft balance and high-altitude carrying capacity.
Groups of four or five passengers may be divided into smaller shuttle loads from Pheriche or another approved location. The pilot controls seating and passenger allocation for safety.
Documents and Check-In
Foreign travellers should carry their original passport. Nepali passengers should carry an accepted government-issued identification document.
Passengers must arrive at the domestic terminal at the time stated in the final confirmation. Late arrival may result in a missed flight because helicopter departure times depend on narrow weather windows.
Clothing and Baggage
Wear warm layered clothing, a windproof jacket, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, and closed shoes. Kala Patthar and other high-altitude landing points can be extremely cold and windy, even when Kathmandu is warm.
Only a small day bag is permitted. Large suitcases and unnecessary baggage cannot be carried on the tour.

Places covered
The places this journey moves through, in the order they shape the experience.
Phase by phase
Walk through the day in clear stages — timing, places, and what to expect at each point.
Report to Kathmandu Domestic Terminal early in the morning. Complete passenger check-in, submit your passport details, confirm your body weight and attend the helicopter safety briefing. The flight begins only after the operator has confirmed suitable weather and received the necessary aviation clearance.
Fly east from Kathmandu toward Lukla, the main aerial gateway to the Everest region. The flight usually takes approximately 40–45 minutes. Enjoy views of hills, valleys, traditional settlements and the Himalayan ranges as the aircraft approaches Lukla.
Land briefly at Tenzing–Hillary Airport for refuelling and an operational check. The ground time at Lukla is normally around 5–10 minutes.
NoteThis is one tour day divided into five flight phases. All flight times, landing points and stop durations are approximate and subject to change.
Continue from Lukla above the Dudh Koshi Valley toward Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Pheriche and Gorak Shep. The helicopter gradually climbs into the high Everest region while providing aerial views of Sherpa settlements, monasteries, glaciers and Himalayan peaks.
The flight from Lukla into the upper Khumbu generally takes approximately 25–30 minutes.
Weather permitting, fly above the Khumbu Glacier for aerial views of Everest Base Camp, the Khumbu Icefall and the Kala Patthar area.
The helicopter may make a brief landing at Kala Patthar or another authorized high-altitude viewpoint when regulations, weather, snow conditions, passenger weight and the pilot’s assessment permit. The high-altitude stop is normally limited to approximately 5–10 minutes.
Groups of four or five passengers may be divided into smaller shuttle loads from Pheriche or another approved location.
Fly toward Syangboche for a possible stop near Hotel Everest View. Enjoy panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and the surrounding mountains.
The stop normally lasts approximately 20–30 minutes. Breakfast and refreshments can be ordered directly from the hotel at your own expense. The stop may be shortened or omitted when weather, flight clearance or air traffic requires an earlier return.
Fly back toward Lukla for refuelling when required, and then continue to Kathmandu. After landing at the domestic terminal, the Everest Base Camp helicopter tour concludes.
The complete program usually takes four to five hours, although weather and operational conditions may extend the schedule.
