Bardiya National Park is a protected area in Nepal established in 1988 as a Royal Bardiya National Park. Bardiya NP is the largest and less crowded wilderness area of west Nepal, adjoining the eastern bank of the Karnali River in the Bardiya District. It covers an area of 968 Kilometers Square (374 sq mi).
How to get into Bardiya National Park?
The nearest airport to Bardiya National Park is Nepalgunj Airport in the Banke District of Nepal. There are several domestic flights from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, and the flight time is about 45 minutes. You must drive about three hours from Nepalgunj Airport to Bardiya National Park. You can take a bus or hire a private Jeep from Nepalgunj Airport.
Alternatively, you can drive to Bardiya National Park, take a regular bus from Kathmandu to Ambassa, or direct to Thakurdwara. The bus ride to the destination from Kathmandu is about 13-14 hours. If you are driving with your private vehicle, the driving time could be slightly shorter than the public buses.
Suppose you have a short holiday time and want to explore this peaceful national park in Nepal. In that case, we highly recommend flying to Nepalgunj and then taking a Jeep/Bus ride to Bardiya National Park instead of taking a long bus journey from Kathmandu to Bardiya.
